Best Dosa Restaurants in Alappuzha / Alleppey

Here I am talking about some of the best dosa restaurants in Alleppey. I’ve lived here for the majority of my life, so I’m familiar with most of these places, and they’re among my favorite things.

Dosa has become synonymous with South India and is popular throughout the country. It is a popular dish in southern states such as Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh, and can be found in most restaurants and on most menus. Dosa is something that is very diverse, even within the same state.

The method of making and tasting varies from place to place. Even the sambar that is served with the dosa changes in different places. Udupi and other parts of Karnataka are well-known for their sambar, which is slightly sweet due to the addition of jaggery. Peanut chutney is served as a side dish in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, whereas coconut chutney is served in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. And you will find the most customized dosas in the northern part of India. Noodles Dosa and Chocolate Dosa are some of the interesting names that you will see.

These lists are not final and are completely based on my experience. Most of these restaurants have already made their legacy and some of them are as old as me or even older.

Indian Coffee House

This chain of restaurants is the most familiar and household name in Kerala. Owned by a cooperative, this is where you can get some of the best dosas in Kerala and Alleppey as well. The price is reasonable and regulated, hence this is the favorite sport for most of us.

Their specialty is the Masala Dosa, which has a red beetroot and potato filling. The juicy and spicy red filling is something worth trying out. It’s a treat for your eyes and mind.

If you are not a fan of beetroot, you can try the Ghee roast dosa, which is mindblowing.

Don’t forget to have a cup of coffee here. This aromatic coffee is another specialty and goes well with the Dosa. If you enjoy coffee, you can also purchase coffee powder there.

The only con that I found here is that the dosas are not that big.

Must try: Masala Dosa, Coffee, Ghee Roast Dosa

Location: Alappuzha, Pathirappally

Hotel Aryaas Vegetarian Restaurant

This is also another chain of restaurants and a familiar name in most of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Famous for its authentic South Indian dishes. Dosa here has more of a Tamil touch than the traditional Kerala style. The texture and filling are completely different from the others here

You can find the traditional potato masala filling in the masala dosas that are served here.

VNS Cafe

This place is something unique. VNS cafe is there even during the times of our parents and they continue to serve the best. Even so, it’s still a one-room, small shop with limited space. But it’s their delicious food that keeps us coming back.

Small dosas with chutney, spicy chili dishes and Rasam vada are popular dishes here. All of this is served on a single plate, and the unique combination of flavors is reason enough to return. Dosa and chutney with the tanginess of rasam vada will be a new experience.

Must try: Dosa with Rasam Vada
